Homemade Keto Corn Dogs (these are the best!)

By Bree

Keto corn dogs are definitely a staple in many households because they’re easy to prepare and convenient to serve. These corn dogs are slightly different (in a good way!) since they’re made with fresh mozzarella pieces instead of hot dogs, so they’re much healthier, too!

How to Make Keto Corn Dogs

You’ll have to do just a little bit of prep work in order to get your keto-friendly corn dog dough ready to go with your hot dogs, but don’t worry because the results are well worth it. Here’s the recipe:

  • Skewer. Insert a skewer into each hot dog and then set aside.
  • Combine the dry ingredients. Add the almond flour, xanthan gum, and salt to a small bowl and mix to combine. Set aside.
  • Melt the cheese. Add the mozzarella cheese to a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high in 30 second intervals, stirring after every interval, until the mixture is completely smooth.
  • Finish it off. Add the almond flour mixture and one egg into the melted cheese and mix to combine.
  • Prepare the dough. Place the dough between two pieces of parchment paper and roll it out to about ¼ inch thick. Remove the top piece of parchment paper and then slice the dough into 6 strips. Finally, wrap the dough around the hot dog skewers.
  • Prepare the frying pan. Add about one inch of oil to a heavy, deep frying pan and heat over medium heat.
  • Fry. Fry the corn dogs (2 or 3 at a time) until lightly browned.
  • Serve. Serve warm.

2 Quick Tips for Frying Corn Dogs

Here are a few handy tips that you can keep in mind when frying your corn dogs in order to make sure that they turn out as good as they can possibly be:

  • Approach at an angle. Before adding each of your corn dogs into the frying pan, I find it helps a lot to hold them at an angle and then dip them into the oil for about 5 seconds first. This helps to seal the corn dogs before you drop them into the frying pan.
  • Don’t crowd the pan. In order to make sure that your corn dogs are cooking properly, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re not crowding the pan. That’s exactly why the recipe recommends only cooking 2-3 corn dogs at a time.
