Mocha Frozen Latte Keto Shake for Energy

By Bree

Today I wanted to share a recipe for a keto shake with you guys that is absolutely phenomenal to drink before your workouts — even though it doesn’t offer much in the way of protein. What this mocha frozen latte keto shake does provide you with though is a great burst of energy in the form of an incredibly delicious shake. It’s a perfect way to fuel up with energy before a morning workout, or even just for giving yourself a quick boost in the mornings to get ready for tackling the day ahead. The recipe itself is somewhat similar to another keto coffee favorite, bulletproof coffee, as it mixes MCT oil and another quality fat source in the form of heavy cream with coffee to make a great tasting drink. If you’re a fan of bulletproof style coffee, then you’re going to absolutely love this shake.

My New Favorite Way to Enjoy Coffee

To make this shake, start by getting your blender out and pouring in some unsweetened almond milk. While you can feel free to use full fat milk if you’d like to add in even more calories from a fat source, I prefer to use almond milk when I make my shakes as I don’t tolerate milk very well. In addition to that, using almond milk provides a wide range of amazing health benefits such as cholesterol reduction, improved cognitive functioning, and reduced risk of heart disease. (1) In the end, deciding between using almond milk or regular milk definitely comes down to personal choice, and you really can’t go wrong with either option when making this recipe.

Speaking of adding calories from a fat source, you’ll be getting plenty from two high quality sources with this shake recipe. As with most of my keto shakes, I mix in a small amount of heavy cream to up the fat content. This mocha latte shake takes things a step further by also mixing in some MCT oil as well. I absolutely love MCT oil — I use it in my coffee, I use protein powder that contains it (check out the brand I use here), and it works perfectly in this recipe. Olive oil might get a ton of credit in a standard Mediterranean style diet, but studies have actually found that MCT oils are even more effective when it comes to weight and fat loss! (2)

The health benefits of this shake don’t end there though. Far from it — you’ll also be mixing in some cacao powder to help produce that delightful mocha taste. The cacao powder does far more than just make this shake taste amazing — it’s also packed full of antioxidants and other anti-inflammatory properties that have been proven to play a useful role in helping to prevent several types of chronic disease. Of course, to complete this mocha latte shake, you’ll also need to add the coffee next, before finishing things off with a bit of liquid Stevia for sweetness. This recipe calls for the use of instant coffee, but truthfully, that’s just a choice of convenience. By using instant coffee, you can just throw it in the blender with the other ingredients and have the shake ready in just a few minutes. If you’d rather to make a bit of your own coffee with your preferred brewing method to add in, feel free.
