Oven-Baked Low Carb Keto Beef Jerky for High Protein Snacking

By Bree

The best thing about making keto friendly snacks is that they’re incredibly effective at busting up hunger thanks to their high protein and fat content. Both protein and fat work wonders for leaving you feeling full and satisfied, another benefit to the keto diet. Today I’m going to be sharing one of my favorite keto snack recipes. The recipe is for making oven-baked low carb keto beef jerky that’s perfect for quick grab-and-gos!

How to Make the Best Keto Beef Jerky

The first thing that you’ll need to do when making this beef jerky is to take your beef and trim off any fat before slicing it into strips, making sure that you’re going against the grain when you cut. You can then go ahead and preheat your oven to 175°F.

Next, add the steak into a bowl, along with all the seasonings and toss to coat everything well. You can then line two baking sheets with some aluminum foil before placing wire racks over top of the foil. Lay your beef strips out over the wire racks in a single layer, then place the baking sheets in the oven.

You’ll want to bake the beef for between 4-6 hours, making sure that you rotate the position of the baking sheets about midway through. Once the beef is visibly dry and leathery, it should be good to go.

Other Keto Beef Jerky Recipes That Won’t Disappoint

This is easily one of the more savory beef jerky keto recipes that I know of, and it’s definitely a personal favorite. With that being said though, it’s a little bit too flavorful for my kids, so I usually end up making a few different kinds of beef jerky all in one go. While I typically tend to stick with this particular recipe for myself, I usually rotate between these other great keto jerky recipes for the kids:

Can I Use Another Type of Meat to Make Jerky?

Just as there are plenty of different ways to make keto friendly jerky using beef, there are also plenty of ways to make tasty keto jerky with other types of meat as well.

You can actually make jerky with just about any kind of lean meat you can think of: beef, turkey, pork, venison are all viable options for example. However, it’s not recommended to make jerky using chicken because of how the flavor and texture turn out with the finished product.

How Long Does Homemade Jerky Last? What’s the Best Way to Store It?

The best way to store your beef jerky is by using an airtight container and keeping it in the fridge. You can reasonably expect it to last for up to one month when stored like this, although I can’t see how jerky that tastes this good could ever last for that long to begin with!

How Can I Make Beef Jerky If I Don’t Have an Oven?

If you don’t have access to an oven for whatever reason, you’ll still be able to make your own keto friendly jerky from home. However, I’m going to be perfectly honest guys, using an oven is probably the easiest available method.

If it’s really not an option, the other two most common methods for making your own jerky from scratch are to either use a dehydrator or a smoker. Both are perfectly viable options that can produce great tasting jerky. I just prefer to make my jerky in an oven for the convenience of it.

Can I Freeze Beef Jerky?

While storing your beef jerky in the fridge properly can give it a shelf life of about 30 days, you can significantly extend that by freezing the jerky instead.

As long as you again follow proper storage procedures and make sure that you’re using an airtight container to store your jerky, you can potentially freeze it for up to one year.
