Easy and Quick Keto Smoothie Recipe – Low Carb and High in Healthy Fats
It seems like I can never find enough time to get everything I need done in the mornings lately. I’ve recently started a new evening job that has me staying up pretty late, which is resulting in some truly hectic mornings indeed. Thankfully, I know just the go-to breakfast option for when I’m feeling the crunch in the early AM hours. This easy and quick keto smoothie recipe is the perfect breakfast to make sure that I’m giving my body the fuel it needs in between rushing around and getting my kids ready for school. It’s such a convenient way to squeeze in some protein and healthy fats in a low carb package, and it’s even an excellent source of antioxidants as well!
Loaded With Quality Fat Sources
This smoothie recipe really does provide you with an unbelievable amount of high quality fats. For starters, you’re getting a one-two punch combo of medium chain triglyceride fatty acids in the form of both coconut milk and MCT oil. This type of fatty acids is incredibly beneficial for anyone on a keto diet, as it’s incredibly easy for your liver to rapidly break MCT fats down and convert them into ketones. (1)
MCT fats are so effective at inducing ketosis that they can shorten the time it takes someone to get back into keto from 3-4 days to under 24 hours in some cases (there are various other factors to consider, such as depleting muscle glycogen stores as well).
In addition to the MCTs, this recipe also provides you with a solid amount of omega-3 fatty acids thanks to the addition of flaxseed meal. It also helps to add a moderate amount of protein and dietary fiber to your smoothie as well, which along with the blueberries, definitely helps some keto dieters who struggle to meet their daily fiber needs.
You’ll also be giving your smoothie a nice vanilla flavor by adding both a single teaspoon of vanilla essence and one scoop of vanilla protein powder. I personally like to use a protein powder made specifically for people in ketosis as it includes added grass-fed collagen and MCT oil powder, further upping the fat content while keeping carbs to a minimum. The brand I use is made by Perfect Keto and you can purchase it online by clicking here.
Last but not least, the recipe calls for adding a few frozen blueberries into the mix. As I mentioned earlier, they help to slightly increase the total fiber content for you, but they also provide a few other great benefits as well. They’re an extremely rich source of disease-fighting antioxidants that have demonstrated potential in helping to prevent both cancer and heart disease. (2) Plus as somebody who enjoys a good slice of blueberry pie, I can’t complain too much about the added blueberry flavor in my morning smoothie!
As much as I hate to skip meals, at least I don’t have to worry about replacing them with keto-friendly smoothies or shakes. They’re usually made with a terrific choice of ingredients that makes them perfectly viable as a healthy meal replacement. They’re also a great way for anyone who is looking to gain some muscular weight to quickly and easily squeeze more calories in throughout the day.
